On Tuesday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m. Books on the Square will have a poetry reading with Rhode Island Poet Laureate Tina Cane and Brown Professors Mary-Kim Arnold and Mónica de la Torre.

Tina Cane is the founder and director of Writers-in- the-Schools, RI and is an instructor with the writing community Frequency Providence. Her poems and translations have appeared in numerous publications, including The Literary Review, Two Serious Ladies, Tupelo Quarterly, Jubliat and The Common. She is the author of The Fifth Thought (Other Painters Press), Dear Elena: Letters for Elena Ferrante, poems with art by Esther Solondz (Skillman Avenue Press) and Once More With Feeling (Veliz Books). In 2016, Tina received the Fellowship Merit Award in Poetry from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and she currently serves as the Poet Laureate of Rhode Island, where she lives with her husband and their three children.

Mary-Kim Arnold is the author of Litany for the Long Moment, which won the 2016 Essay Press Open Book Prize. A multidisciplinary artist and writer, her work has appeared in a number of literary and art journals, including The Georgia Review, Hyperallergic, and The Rumpus, where she serves on the Advisory Committee. The recipient of fellowships from the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts, she holds graduate degrees from Vermont College of Fine Arts and Brown University, where she teaches in the Nonfiction Writing Program.

Mónica de la Torre is the author, most recently, of The Happy End/All Welcome. Born and raised in Mexico City, she translates poetry, writes about art, and is a contributing editor to BOMB magazine. Recent publications include The Paris Review and Critical Quarterly. She teaches in the Literary Arts program at Brown University. Her translation of Defensa del ídolo by the Chilean modernist Omar Cáceres is forthcoming from Ugly Duckling Presse this spring.
